Established
in 1966, NCC was the pilot project for Iowa’s Community College System.
At first the College offered three vocational programs to students
representing 20 high schools in Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux
counties. On February 10, 1971, Merged Area IV was expanded when two
community districts in Cherokee County requested that they be included
with the area.
The North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools granted candidacy for accreditation status in 1976 and
accreditation status in 1980, which was expanded in 1988 to include the
Associate of Arts and Science programs implemented in the fall of 1988.
The College received 10 years of accreditation in 1994 and again in
2004.

Sanborn
Christian School officially began as an incorporated and approved
school by the State Board of Education in 1917. However, prior to the
organization of this Christian day school, summer classes were held
beginning in 1914 in the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. In 1917 an
addition was buit on the south side of hte church to serve as a
classroom. In 1918, it was necessary to have another classroom so a
basement room was used for this purposed. This arrangement continued for
three years.

A
Lutheran School... Picture this: a place where people rejoice in life
and live under the gracious goodness of our loving God. A place where
children are touched in ways that last forever. Zion-St. John develops
the characteristics necessary for success as a citizen and as a
Christian in adult life. Children in the elementary years are helped to
develop values and to learn the basics for successive years of
education. At this level, we believe providing a quality education is
vital, especially from a Christian value-centered point of view.
Zion-St.
John's roots stem back to the 1800's. St. John Lutheran Church in
Germantown founded its school in 1879. Twenty-five years later Zion
Lutheran in Paullina made the same commitment for its students. In 1976
the two schools consolidated to form Zion-St John, yet the education
received is anything but old fashioned. A computer lab used by every
student K-8, internet access, a music program including all grade levels
and athletic competition are among the opportunities Zion-St John gives
its students. But most important of all, Zion-St John offers a
Christian atmosphere that allows us to address all the student's needs:
intellectual, emotional, & spiritual.
